Profile
Marina Bos-de Vos is an Associate Professor of Design for Joint Value Creation in Societal Transitions at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, TU Delft, where she explores how design can support projects and programs in co-creating and capturing value in the context of societal transitions. Her research focuses on identifying and navigating value synergies and tensions, and on equipping designers and project teams with tools and methods to address complex societal challenges—including in sustainability, health, and social equity—through a comprehensive, value-based approach. She has published in leading journals and received several awards for her work on topics such as collective projecting for promoting transitions, value creation and capture in project-based firms, and professional value. Marina is part of the Delft Design for Values Institute management team and an affiliated researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. In addition to her academic role, she contributes to real-world change by co-developing practitioner-oriented design methods and tools used in education and industry. She particularly likes working together with project and program leaders, students, and many others on innovative research and design approaches.
More about Marina
Academic and designer Marina Bos-de Vos (TU Delft) initiated this research collective because she believes that the process of jointly creating value for society, organizations, and individuals in projects and programs driving societal transitions—such as advancing a circular economy, preventive healthcare, or carbon-neutral energy—needs to be intentionally designed and managed. While joint value creation lies at the core of these projects and programs, it is often not well understood or supported, leading to tensions, inefficiencies, and outcomes that fall short of their ambitions. By bringing together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and educators from diverse disciplines, Marina aims to collectively advance knowledge of joint value creation in societal transitions and to explore how design and designers can play meaningful roles in making this complex process not only manageable, but also rewarding and enjoyable for everyone involved.
